Brand Theme Song

For the restaurant chain Samtai Yamch'a, we worked together to create a heartfelt theme song reminiscent of Hong Kong rock and staying true to yamcha's origins, while adding a touch of Malaysia to fully capture Samtai Yamch'a's essense.

Rather than going the usual "cute and upbeat" theme song route, we decided to channel the sound of yamcha's roots from Hong Kong, while blending in Malaysian elements and lyrics that reflect the brand's ethos.

Iconic Cantonese rock bands and sounds were referenced to symbolize the history of yamcha, staying true to Samtai's origins and culinary history. However, to better represent Samtai's Malaysian interpretation of "yamcha," and how it bring different people together through good food and ambience, we incorporated a variety of Malaysian cultural instruments.

To further embody Samtai Yamch'a's diverse customer base, in addition to English, the song features lyrics in Cantonese (一齊去飲茶), and Malay (jom makan). It is featured incrementally in their in-store playlist, as well as social media.
